Grants

For three years, my team and I met or exceeded our annual grant goal of raising $3 million dollars from a range of public and private sources, to support comprehensive human services, including youth employment, parent education, domestic violence services, mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and child safety programs.

Our largest contract was a $15 million dollar, six-year, public grant for an innovative program that promotes child safety in all 99 counties in the state of Iowa.

One of the most interesting grants I wrote was one that yeilded $20,000 to fund an early childhood technology initiative for at-risk kids. Thanks to this generous grant award, we were able to purchase iPads, mobile computer stations, and a large flat screen for innovative lessons and indoor physical education, including dancing. I enjoyed researching the value of utilizing technology in the early years and found a lot of useful material on website for the Fred Roger's Institute for Early Childhood Learning (aka Mr. Rodgers).

I created an annual grants strategic plan for the organization, utilizing an excel workbook to track prospects, deadlines, expectancies, and reporting. Also, I trained and mentored new grant writers.
